SUMMARY:Philippines: Unequal Impacts of Climate Extremes among Coastal Communities
DESCRIPTION:Socio-Environmental Conflicts in Southeast Asia: A Lecture Seri
es\n\nThis talk explores how the Sama Badjao, a sea-oriented Indigenous com
munity in the Philippines, experiences and responds to climate change, extr
eme weather, and structural marginalization. Drawing on post-disaster field
work after Super Typhoon Rai in 2021-2022, it highlights how their recovery
process and adaptive practices reveal deeper questions of justice and resi
lience amid intensifying climate crises.\n\nGretchen Gonzaga is a Junior Re
searcher at the Center for Development Research, University of Bonn.\n\nThe
Talk is part of the Lecture Series "Socio-Environmental Conflicts in South
east Asia". The Lecture Series is organised by Abteilung für Südostasienwis
senschaft der Universität Bonn, Stiftung Asienhaus and the philippinenbüro.
 \n\nEveryone interested is warmly invited.
