Fuelling New Problems: China`s biofuel policies

Asia Paper, Brussels Institute of Contemporary China Studies, Brussels, Vol. 4, No. 3, 2009, 21p.

This paper looks at China`s biofuel policies and assesses their social and environmental impact domestically and abroad. It is argued that the Chinese society is not only bearing the costs by draining parts of its taxes into these policies; there is also evidence that they pay a significant indirect price. China is also externalizing the externalities to developing countries by growing biofuel crops without decent regulation.
