Following nearly a year of political deadlock, Timor-Leste has a new government. Early elections were held on the 12. May 2018, since an intended grand coalition of a national unity government collapsed shortly after the election in 2017. A subsequent minority government could not assert itself against the united opposition. The election has been won by said opposition with an absolute majority. A lot of electoral promises were made during the campaign but will the government be able to deliver? Which challenges will Timor-Leste face and what kind of role will non-governmental organizations play?
