TNI just announced the launch of Shifting Power - Critical perspectives on Emerging Economies - a series of TNI working papers that examine the implications of the economic rise of China, India, Brazil and South Africa for social movements involved in the struggle for social and environmental justice.
Written by prominent academics and social movement activists across the world, the papers:
- examine the emergence of blocs like the BRICS and BASIC and whether they truly pose a challenge to the unipolar world order led by the US
- unpick the forces and contexts that have shaped each country's engagement with a multipolar world
- explore the power of social movements in each country, and the opportunities and challenges they face in advancing social and environmental justice
- analyse the role BRICS and other regional blocs have played in key areas of land grabbing, trade and climate change
