Socio-Environmental Conflicts in Southeast Asia: A Lecture Series

This talk explores how the Sama Badjao, a sea-oriented Indigenous community in the Philippines, experiences and responds to climate change, extreme weather, and structural marginalization. Drawing on post-disaster fieldwork after Super Typhoon Rai in 2021-2022, it highlights how their recovery process and adaptive practices reveal deeper questions of justice and resilience amid intensifying climate crises.

Gretchen Gonzaga is a Junior Researcher at the Center for Development Research, University of Bonn.

The Talk is part of the Lecture Series "Socio-Environmental Conflicts in Southeast Asia". The Lecture Series is organised by Abteilung für Südostasienwissenschaft der Universität Bonn, Stiftung Asienhaus and the philippinenbüro.

Everyone interested is warmly invited.
