Dr. Rakhmat Hidayat’s talk examines the contrast between the ideals of green development and Indonesia’s large-scale urbanization, critiquing how mega-projects, even with sustainability goals, often revert to growth-first practices over ecological integrity.
Dr. Rakhmat Hidayat is an Associate Professor at the Department of Sociology, State University of Jakarta, Indonesia. At the moment he is also a Visiting Fellow at the Department of Southeast Asian Studies, University of Bonn, Germany.
The Talk is part of the Lecture Series "Socio-Environmental Conflicts in Southeast Asia". The Lecture Series is organised by Abteilung für Südostasienwissenschaft der Universität Bonn, Stiftung Asienhaus and the philippinenbüro.
