Since the coup d’état in Myanmar on February 1, a wave of protests has swept across the whole country. An important part of the people’s struggle for democracy and self-determination is the civil disobedience movement (CDM) which is joined by more and more segments of society, hospital workers, factory workers, railway workers, and other government or private company employees. The protesters are not deterred by the increasingly violent crackdowns, arrests, and killings. The brave struggle is showing tremendous creativity, complexity, and resilience, particularly by very young people, the generation Z, but at the same time the situation is getting more and more out of hand: Initially using systematic violence against political groups and protest movements, the military and police have now moved on to arbitrarily massacring civilians. The situation is escalating day by day, but the protests and strikes are continuing
This online panel will discuss the campaigns and potential options for the CDM movement in the current situation.
